Notes from the Field: CEO Exchange and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services

WHO: CEO Exchange and the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS)

WHAT: Six members of Nevada DHHS spent a day touring several Southern Nevada nonprofit sites to gain a better understanding of the nonprofit and community landscape. The group visited Three Square Food Bank, Catholic Charities of Southern Nevada, and a newly completed Nevada HAND affordable housing community along Boulder Highway that includes an onsite Boys & Girls Clubs location. In addition to touring many locations, the group traveled on a bus and were able to discuss current issues and ideas individually.

WHY: During our time engaging with nonprofits and local governments on our federal grant competitiveness initiative, grant writers identified a lack of alignment between state directors (mostly located in Norther Nevada) and our region. To build better relationships and continue to share our community’s needs and issues, the CEO Exchange invited the leadership of DHHS to visit from Carson City and tour many of the important sites that house Southern Nevada’s most critical social services.

NEXT: SNS continues to participate actively in the CEO Exchange. SNS also helped facilitate a DHHS-led training in Southern Nevada focused on reimbursement for Medicaid-eligible services so that local governments and nonprofits can better determine if they are able to obtain Medicaid funding for their programs.

“Notes From the Field” is a real-time blog written by our SNS manager that shares notes from meetings with community partners and stakeholders on how they contribute to the progress of the plan. This is an opportunity to follow along on the valley’s progress and receive relevant news on housing, transportation, healthcare, and employment projects.
