Notes from the Field: Nevada Institute for Children’s Research and Policy (NICRP)

WHO: Tara Phebus, Executive Director, Nevada Institute for Children’s Research and Policy (NICRP) at UNLV

WHAT: The Nevada Institute for Children’s Research and Policy (NICRP), located within the School of Community Health Sciences at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), is a not-for-profit, non-partisan organization dedicated to improving the lives of children through research, advocacy and other specialized services. Its mission is to conduct academic and community-based research that will guide the development of policies, programs and services that will enhance the health and well-being of Nevada’s children.

WHY: NICRP engages in research and evaluation that is critical to our community’s future in competing for federal grants. As an external evaluator contracted to evaluate many programs administered by the Southern Nevada Health District and the State of Nevada, NICRP ensures that proposals for funding meet expectations and that adjustments to client services are made to ensure outcomes can be achieved. It’s through this work that NICRP has built a reputation as an expert partner for public funding and public programming. To improve our child welfare and public health rankings, Southern Nevada must deploy programs with documented impact and improved outcomes for clients.

NEXT: SNS will continue to engage with Tara and NICRP as we continue to develop programming to build the technical skills of our nonprofit and local government partners.

“Notes From the Field” is a real-time blog written by our SNS manager that shares notes from meetings with community partners and stakeholders on how they contribute to the progress of the plan. This is an opportunity to follow along on the valley’s progress and receive relevant news on housing, transportation, healthcare, and employment projects.
